decent charger; lame sound quality September 7, 2010 J. King (North Florida) A plus for this device is that it provides an Ipod charger feature in addition to it being a FM transitter. However, the sound quality is quite poor. The feature that allows for the device to search for the "best" frequency is usually way off, and it seems to often pick frequencies with interferring chatter. Even on a supposedly "clean" frequency, the signal has static and is no way close to CD quality (more like old, worn out cassette tape quality). There is also little consistency in a frequency's sound quality if a somewhat decent one is located. There doesn't seem to be any difference in quality between the "international" and "US" modes discussed elsewhere on the Amazon reviews and using some of the lower FM frequencies. I bought another FM transmitter by Kensington a while back from Amazon, and the sound quality on that device blows the Griffin away. Unfortunately, I didn't realize what I was missing out on until I had loaned my wife the Griffin product and she commented on how poor it was compared to the Kensington unit. Also unfortunately, Amazon doesn't appear to be selling the Kensington line any longer. I'll most likely be keeping the Griffin mostly for a charger in the car, and for a back-up FM transmitter. If one wants sound quality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Didn't work in L.A. September 2, 2010 Michael P. Swatek (LA, CA) I own a Griffin iTrip transmitter for the Sansa mp3 player, and it worked pretty darn well for me, and I'm in Los Angeles area. I only had problems when driving around Long Beach, maybe because of KJAZZ at 88.1 (I always used 87.9 as my frequency). Anyway, got the iPhone 3Gs, tried the Griffin iTrip for iPhone, and the results were not good. No matter what frequency (including 87.9 in the international mode as suggested in previous reviews), the sound started out good, then over the next 5 seconds, static would creep in to an unacceptable level. Tried two devices, same problem. I plugged in the iTrip for Sansa and it worked fine at that location, that frequency. Griffin support answered the phone right away, but was unable to offer a solution. Oh, well. Nice return policy, Amazon.
Just does not work September 1, 2010 jaspertyler (Milwaukee, WI United States) I have been using this for the past few months and finally gave up and bought a different brand. See my reviews to see one that works wonderfully.
This particular model did not hold a strong signal for me at all. I constantly had to hold it in my hand or change the station. I tried placing my iPod in different areas in my car to try to get it to work but it was always fuzzy and I lost my signal and picked up other signals often. I gave such low stars to this item because it is essentially useless to me given that it just does not work. I'm disappointed because it was kind of expensive.
good for the price September 1, 2010 pprestwood I use this in my 05 chevy impala, with the vehicle antenna built into the back windshield, i have tried numerous angles for the transmitter but no matter what, to get a clear signal i had to put the unit in mono transmit (DX mode). Stereo (Lx) just picked up to much static for my vehicle. but broadcasting in Dx is just fine with me, sound is very clear very little static. im very pleased with the quality. Also even tho it says it works with the iphone, you cannot use this model as a hands free talking device. it will not transmit phone calls thru the speakers. other than that. very worth the money. i do recommend this buy.
Not great August 12, 2010 secret beach kauai 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am quite disappointed w/this Griffen transmitter. Impossible to hear i-pod music in any populated area. Unit directs you to station that is supposed to work, and, it doesn't. If I had not thrown original packaging away, would definitely return and purchase from another manufacturer. Waste of money, very frustrating.
